Dien Bien Phu
Dien Bien Phu is located in Muong Thanh Valley, and ethnic Thai and H'mong people account for approximately two-thirds of the valley's 60,000 residents. Pa Khoang Lake is actually a man-made water reservoir, crucial for the irrigation of the valley below. It is also the site of Dien Bien Phu's only tourist resort - a newly built hotel that resembles a Swiss castle.
DMZ (Quang Tri)
Vietnam's Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, is the area around the former border between North and South Vietnam. Historically it was a narrow band of terrain extending from the Laos border to the coast, five km on either side of the Ben Hai River, roughly on the 17th parallel north latitude. The area saw heavy fighting in the war, and ruins of old American military bases still exist. Even if you're not interested in the history, the area has some spectacular mountain scenery and rugged jungles
Vinh Moc Tunnels (Quang Tri)
Following heavy U.S. bombardments in June 1965, villagers of Vinh Moc began digging shelters beneath their houses. Then they joined with their neighbors to create a web of tunnels, some as deep as 23m underground. Every household was entitled to 4 m2. There were also public facilities, such as meeting rooms, art performance room, and a clinic where 17 babies were born
Cu Chi Tunnels (Saigon)
The tunnels of Cu Chi were built over a period of 25 years beginning in the late 1940s. They were the improvised response of a poorly equipped peasant army to its enemy's high-tech ordnance, helicopters, artillery, bombers and chemical weapons.
The tunnel network became legendary during the 1960s for its role in facilitating Viet Cong (VC) control of a large rural area only 30km to 40km from HCMC. At its height, the tunnel system streched from the South Vietnamese capital to the Cambodian border: in a district of Cu Chi alone, there were over 250km of tunnels. The network, parts of which were several storey deep, included innumerable trapdoors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapon factories, command center and kitchens.

Con Dao Prison (Vung Tau)
Con Dao, called Poulo Condore by western sailors, was for a long time a little-known and inaccessible destination for foreign tourists. From 1862 to 1975, the archipelago housed a large and brutal prison for opponents of French colonialism and the former Saigon regime. Nowadays, Con Dao is becoming known as a paradise for nature tourists, seekers of peace and beauty, as well as for honeymooners. Here you can wander among poignant symbols of the past as well as explore undisturbed forests, white sand beaches, colourful coral reefs, and a vivid underwater world..
